ALÍCÍA JAYE IS A SENSATIONAL GUITARIST, VOCALIST, SONGWRITER AND POET FROM TĀMAKI MAKAURAU.
Known for her playful blend of beat-driven RnB with spoken word hip-hop, Alícía’s influences span from Jennifer Hudson and Tank and the Bangas, to Fela Kuti and jazz artists such as flautist Elena Pinderhughes (Christian Scott). One to come alive on the stage, her lyrics invite listeners on her raw personal journey, while fearlessly wrestling with and providing a voice against toxic cultural norms such as consumerism.

At the beginning of 2022, Alícía completed her Bachelor of Music in jazz guitar at the University of Auckland, forming a strong foundation for her sound as an improviser and bandleader. Her commitment led her to receive the Michael Joseph Savage and Kate Edgar Charitable Trust Vinka Marinovich Memorial Awards in Music, as well as being taken into the Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra’s Young Achievers programme.
Alongside this, she has been involved with numerous other groups including the NZSO National Youth Orchestra, Opus (the Bay of Plenty’s professional orchestra),the Auckland University Big Band and jazz combos, Afflatus Chamber Ensemble, and Acrylic (a jazz duo facilitated by APO Young Achievers), among others. Keeping broad horizons brings Alícía endless inspiration to draw upon when writing and performing her original music.
Highlights of 2021 include performing at Tauranga’s National Jazz Festival and Hamilton’s Festival One as well as further establishing herself on the Auckland scene.
In August, 2022, Alícía moved to Berlin to explore her cultural roots and expand her career as an artist.
